Reston Regional Library

Yesterday I had the pleasure of visiting the Reston Regional Library. In late afternoon it was busy. Folks were checking Value Line on-line, the books on CD, browsing in the stacks, and on the public Internet access machines. The parking lot was about 75% full. Seems to be well used by the local community. They had a good selection of computer books, including many animal titles, and downloadable audio-books.

- Too Easy
Had a nice comment from a new patron yesterday, he said getting a card and checking items out was too easy. He was very pleased to have a 2 week check out on the video, same as books. I guess our registration is OK. Not available on-line yet, maybe that...

- Web List
Late yesterday I had a new project dropped in my lap. What is wanted is a list of on-line books and texts for our Web site. I have about 1200 items with links in our catalog, but something less like a catalog is what is desired and only including on-line...

- Public Libraries
While on vacation I stopped into the Hyannis Public Library. It was a busy place. The reference staff were answering questions, a student and tutor were studying for an exam, people were checking out books, reading magazines and using the public access...

- Webwords
Webwords appears to be a useful feature in the OPAC for users of audio books. I'd be happy to hear a clip of the reader before checking it out. I often listen to audio books and occasionally a readers voice is not what I want to hear. I've returned...
